The University of Cambridge in the UK is developing a software that can sense human emotions by tracking people's facial expressions and ways of speaking.
The project was led by Prof. Peter Robinson of the University of Cambridge Computer Laboratory, and he hopes to use this software to improve the effects of human-computer interaction. Professor Robinson said that computers in the past can only understand the results of human typing or what people have said. But the system they developed not only knows what people are saying, but also why people say so.
The project team is currently working with the University of Cambridge Autism Research Center to develop the software system, as the Autism Research Center's research on human emotions also contributes to software development.
The software system is divided into several parts, one of which specifically tracks the human face and calculates and analyzes the human gestures to infer the current mood and anger. The current experiment shows that the accuracy of its analysis is 70%, which is almost consistent with the results observed directly by most people.
The other part is responsible for analyzing the voice intonation of the person's speech and inferring the speaker's emotion in combination with the human body language and gestures.
