My home theater was considered during the renovation back in 2013. At that time, there were no Wi-Fi or mirroring options available, so we had to plan carefully. Good design included alignment and a video wall. Since we needed to install equipment, we focused on creating a private cinema effect.
After the renovation, my husband visited a private movie theater in a coastal city to check out the setup. He said our home setup was better than the commercial one.
The living room is 6 meters long and 5 meters wide, with no corners or square shapes. Initially, I was concerned about the noise from the TV wall, so the designer suggested soundproofing boards, which exceeded the budget. Fortunately, since there are no neighbors around and the floor insulation is good, noise wasn't an issue, so we didn't go through with it.
If your home has poor soundproofing, consider adding some. It might be expensive, but doing it halfway can still make a difference. For example, wooden noise barriers are both practical and stylish, offering good results.
There are now convenient soundproof felt sheets that can be easily glued onto walls.
Due to the large size of the space, capturing the full home theater effect in the living room is challenging.

The network setup is simple, supporting both projection and TV modes. Most of the time, the TV is used for convenience, paired with a Mi Box. When watching movies or playing games, the projector comes into play. The advantage is that the TV can also support gaming and disc playback, offering more screen choices.
During renovation, wiring was planned ahead, with outlets embedded. The TV cabinet reserved 10 sockets. We selected Hong Kong-style, American-style, and common Chinese five-hole panels, and chose ABB sockets for home use. It's recommended to select sockets with switches for easier power management.
TV Wall Decoration:
In daily use, one thing to improve is the placement of the TV wall, which is blocked by the TV cabinet, making it look messy with too many visible sockets. However, to avoid long standby times and high electricity bills, turning off all devices after use is necessary. The sockets are deep, so it's not efficient to block them. Only the equipment above the TV cabinet should be blocked for easy access.
Surround Speaker Decoration:
Some people suggested that the speaker placement in my home is too high, and they should be at or slightly above ear level. This relates to the furniture layout in my home, as the living room and dining area are combined, with a table already placed.
Because of prior planning, HDMI cables and surround speaker cables were embedded during construction. Speaker cables were purchased locally as Huamin 4m², while the HDMI cable was from Lao Chen’s recommendation, known for good workmanship. However, it is quite rigid, so when burying, elbows must be used instead of sharp bends. Short-term use is not advisable due to difficulty in bending.
The sofa was chosen from Taobao as a Mu Mo wood tea table for the TV cabinet, mainly for its elegant design and solid wood structure, allowing two-story equipment placement. The dovetail joints ensure stability for heavy equipment on top, and iron triangles were added to prevent wood swelling.
Choose the TV cabinet depth based on the deepest equipment, and the length based on equipment arrangement. Don’t buy a cabinet unless it can fit everything. First, choose the theater equipment, then the TV cabinet.
One of the Sony TVs used is now discontinued, mainly because of its high performance-to-price ratio. It's not just a TV, it's a home theater experience.
What is the preamplifier?
The front stage is the home theater processing center, handling all video/audio signals except the speakers. From the network topology, the front stage connects all devices except the speakers.
I selected the Onkyo 5509, supporting 8 HDMI inputs and 2 outputs, easy to connect the projector and TV simultaneously. It has THX Ultra2 Plus certification and uses Audyssey MultEQ XT32 room acoustic correction technology. The rear interface is comprehensive, and the bottom row includes balanced output for purer signal transmission. After Audyssey correction, the effect is satisfactory, though it doesn’t support AirPlay, only DLNA.

However, this front-end model is not recommended. I’ve had two repairs, which cost money and caused frustration. Although the technician said it should last long after these fixes, the issues are common for this model.
The second reason for not recommending this model is its excessive heat. Despite ventilation and a hollow frame, it gets very hot. So it's best placed on the first floor of the TV cabinet for cooling.
It's recommended to visit a store to check the cooling performance of the sample, and read forums to see the maintenance rate before buying.
Onkyo also has a newer model that looks like a high-end unit, but I haven't tried it yet.
What is the post amplifier?
The latter stage is responsible for amplifying the signal from the previous stage.
There are also pre- and post-class amplifiers, but separated systems offer better performance. You can choose accordingly.
After selecting the domestic-made Supersonic HD5200, one advantage is affordability, and the second is minimal heat generation, so it can be placed under the TV cabinet. Each channel has an independent driver, but the actual effect is loud and clear, suitable for movie watching. Music lovers may prefer a higher-end posterior.
Post Amplifier:
Six indicators AMP1 to AMP6, one standby button, the panel is simple. Red light indicates error, green means normal.
The Blu-ray player selected is the OPPO 103D, well-reputed among enthusiasts. No silent watermark after jailbreaking, supports Blu-ray directory, and the operation is smooth. There have been no issues with the product. If anything goes wrong, a restart usually solves it.
Supports USB and MHL/HDMI IN connectors. Supports 3D and 4Kx2K. A mobile hard drive is placed above. Initially, I watched Blu-ray DVDs, but later I got lazy and switched to a mobile hard drive. Here is a link to the same brand.

It's worth mentioning that the 103D also has an HDMI input, which can be used as a Darbee processor to connect other video sources. A separate Darbee processor costs 2,000 RMB, so this feature adds significant value.
The OPPO remote control is also large and has many functions.
The subwoofer is placed on the left side of the TV cabinet, enhancing the corner effect. Since the TV cabinet is near the door, we couldn’t move it. We chose MK’s MX250, with two 12-inch woofers and a 250-watt D-class amplifier. They are closed-box speakers, fast and deep, but not too powerful. However, watching Pacific Rim gives a nice massage on the sofa.
The curtain is the key to the projection effect. The home uses a 110-inch cordage screen bought locally. The reason is that the walls aren’t dark, and the living room connects to the balcony, so the shade isn’t 100%. A gray screen improves contrast. If using a gray screen, a color correction instrument is needed for optimal visual presentation. You can rent the meter once, and remember to reserve sockets for the screen. The location is a drop-down design that hides objects like the TV cabinet and subwoofer.
Now, curved curtains are popular. I don’t know if wood or valued friends have experienced curved curtains.
There are so many TV cabinets in front of them. The number of major equipment is so much that other game consoles aren’t listed. The remote controller is best to consider backlight when selecting the model, which is also more important in the home theater, don’t touch the black operation. Talk about the back. The projector selected is Optoma HD82, the flagship model in 2009, an older model. No 3D, only HDMI 1.3, brightness is only 1300 lumens. Recommended to go for the latest flagship models, or leave it behind and not change. HD82 uses a full glass lens, 1.5 times (f = 22.18 ~ 33.27 F2.45 ~ 2.9) high-precision manual zoom mode, projection 100 inches needs 3.3 to 5 meters distance, in the home projector is a telephoto machine. The appearance of the whole black volume shows its market positioning, 2D picture quality is still in the mainstream today, because it has been discontinued, put the same brand links.
The position of the projector was originally designed to be on a pylon wall. However, the wall is a bubble brick, and the nail holding power is not enough. As a result, the bolt was pulled out of the wall due to an excessive bending moment when the projection was just installed. When it came out, it directly led to a hole in the wall, but also had to fill the wall. At this time, the entire wall is painted and you do not want to change it.

When the plan was revised in a timely manner, instead of installing the projector on the ceiling, how could the ceiling be firm? Hanger is selected by the United States as the price is a little expensive but the work is indeed better than the shelf of more than 100. Projectors are so expensive, still care about such a shelf expensive? In case the shelf is not firm, it will damage the projector. Even if it does not reach people, it will not affect the money. It is advisable to check if the wall is a hollow brick or a bubble brick if it is to be wall-mounted. If so, replace the place where the projection is to be made with a solid brick.

Surround speakers, a total of five, are selected Polk Audio, a U.S. brand, which is a high-cost brand with limited domestic distribution. I chose the models: main box RTI A5, home CSI A6, surround RTI A3, with a 6.5-inch woofer unit. The first three have dual 6.5-inch units, and the bookshelf box is 6.5 inches. The reason for choosing it is affordable, with a front guide hole. The rear guide hole also has a tapered structure. The front guide hole speaker can be placed close to the wall. The guide hole needs to pay attention. If you are at the rear, you usually need to make the speaker 40-50 cm away from the wall. If the unit is large, you need more breathing space.

In general, home theaters that are like watching movies have no need to spend money to go to the cinema and wait for the source of the film. Of course, the timeliness of the movie is almost or support genuine. Since the renovation, unless the unit has issued a movie ticket, it is usually resolved at home without worrying about the influence of the cinema where someone speaks, looks at a mobile phone, and enters and exits.
