A price of a goods -MI millet Bluetooth headset youth version of the box and use experience

Hello everyone, 2017 is coming to an end, and the monk can finally take a break. This year has been really busy—no time to write original articles or apply for any public welfare initiatives. Life just got too intense. I'm feeling a bit drained.

Speaking of Xiaomi, it's clear that the brand has truly blossomed after its initial success. With the popularity of their smartphones, other products like the Xiaomi Bluetooth headset have also gained traction. When the Mi Band II came out, I remember thinking how cool it was to wear Bluetooth earphones while talking to others. The design looked so professional, and being able to use your hands for other tasks made it even more appealing. However, once you start using them regularly, you might find that they aren’t as convenient as they seem. Wearing a headset in your ear can be uncomfortable, and answering calls often feels inefficient. Still, for many people, Bluetooth earphones are a necessity. After all, a product with only style can't last long in such a competitive market.

Xiaomi’s "youth version" products are usually affordable, which makes sense given the target audience. But when you see something like this headset, you might wonder if it's worth the price. High-end brands offer better sound quality and noise cancellation, but Xiaomi claims to deliver value. Is that true? Let's dive in.

Despite being a budget option, the packaging still has a decent design. If it were a different brand, it would likely cost over 100 yuan.

The back of the headset lists various technical specifications, giving it a professional look.

Removing the plastic cover reveals the headset itself. The black design is quite "business-like."

Though the straight design may seem a bit plain, it's much better than the cheap earbud designs. At least it looks more individual.

As a budget model, there are no extra accessories. Just two sizes of ear tips and a charging cable. The cable doesn’t support data transfer, clearly aimed at cutting costs.

The touch controls on the earphone allow you to switch on/off, answer/hang up calls, skip tracks, etc. The touch is slightly soft, not as responsive as high-end models, but still functional.

The charging port uses a micro USB, which is convenient and avoids the hassle of losing a separate charging case.

The left side has a volume button, allowing you to adjust the volume independently from your phone.

The right side has no buttons, which is fine since most Bluetooth headsets don’t need too many. Too many buttons could lead to accidental presses, like pressing the wrong one by mistake. It’s a small detail, but it matters.

The LED indicator lights up red when charging and flashes blue when in use. However, the brightness is low, making it hard to see in certain lighting. This is common in cheaper models. Some users prefer Jabra’s design, where the light is softer and placed inside the ear, offering better privacy. The visible light might make others aware you're using headphones, which isn’t always ideal.

The included silicone ear tips act like shark fins, helping to keep the headset secure. No more worrying about dropping them.

Comparing it to Jabra, the weight difference is noticeable—Xiaomi’s is lighter, but the overall performance isn’t as good. Xiaomi’s “noise reduction” is more like audio compression, filtering out frequencies outside the speech range. This makes the voice sound clearer, but it’s software-based, not hardware. So in noisy environments, it won’t help much. As for sound quality, it’s okay for listening to stories, but not great for music. Monaural earphones just aren’t ideal for that.

In summary, the pros and cons of Xiaomi’s Bluetooth headset:

Pros:

  • Affordable
  • Battery life is decent, enough for long lectures or meetings
  • Good design and build quality for the price

Cons:

  • Not very comfortable during intense activities
  • Sound quality is underwhelming
  • Noise cancellation is mostly marketing hype

So, is it worth buying? If you’re looking for a basic headset to use with your phone or tablet, and you don’t mind the limitations, then yes. But if you want top-tier performance, you’ll need to spend more. After all, your job is important, and sometimes you need more than just a budget headset.
