Recently, the State Council issued guidelines on deepening the “Internet + Advanced Manufacturing Industry†to promote the development of the industrial Internet. The guidelines emphasized strengthening industrial support and encouraging the application of emerging technologies such as augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and artificial intelligence in the industrial Internet. These efforts aim to foster innovation and research in this fast-evolving field.
With the global wave of technological revolutions and industrial transformations, the integration of next-generation information technology with manufacturing has made the industrial Internet a cornerstone for the new industrial revolution. It’s reshaping how industries operate, creating new business models and driving intelligent development. As a key step toward building a strong manufacturing and network power, the industrial Internet supports the broader goals of economic growth, social progress, and national modernization.
To further advance the “Internet + Advanced Manufacturing Industry,†the following strategies are proposed:
First, increase investment in key common technologies. Research should focus on new network interconnection technologies like time-sensitive networks, deterministic networks, and low-power industrial wireless systems. Accelerate the deployment of 5G and software-defined networking in the industrial Internet. Develop safety mechanisms and interoperability standards for industrial Internet protocols. Speed up the adoption of IPv6 and explore emerging technologies such as edge computing, AI, AR, VR, and blockchain in the industrial context.
Second, build a comprehensive industrial Internet standard system. Establish coordination groups and expert advisory panels to streamline the development of industry-wide standards. Create a unified, open, and robust framework that includes overall, basic, application, and security standards. Conduct pilot projects and test verification to ensure these standards are practical and widely applicable.
Third, enhance product and solution supply capabilities. Accelerate R&D in areas like data integration, communication, and analysis, focusing on breakthroughs in key hardware and software solutions such as high-performance networks, smart modules, and industrial software. Promote the integration of data analytics algorithms with industrial knowledge to develop tailored software and AI-driven solutions for different sectors. Support the transformation of traditional industries through customized industrial Internet solutions. Encourage telecom operators, internet companies, and manufacturers to strengthen their service capabilities in network operations, data analysis, and security.
Additionally, the National Development and Reform Commission recently announced the “Notice on Organizing and Implementing the Next-Generation Information Infrastructure Construction Project in 2018.†The notice outlined priorities including the “100M Village†demonstration projects, 5G network construction, and the first phase of the National Quantum Secure Communications Backbone Network.
For 5G, the focus will be on major cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou. The goal is to provide continuous coverage in urban and indoor environments, supporting applications like 4K HD streaming, AR, VR, and drone operations. Specific targets include deploying 5G networks across at least five cities, installing 50 or more 50G base stations per city, ensuring 500+ 5G terminals, and offering low-latency broadband services with speeds over 100 Mbps.
