Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. has recently launched a groundbreaking high-energy liquid tantalum capacitor, the EP1, specifically designed to meet the demanding requirements of aerospace applications. This new offering sets a new benchmark in the industry, delivering the highest capacitance values for each voltage class and form factor. The EP1 provides engineers with greater design flexibility by offering both radial through-hole and surface-mount options across three distinct form factors—A, B, and C—each featuring screw mounting capabilities.
The EP1 is built using Vishay’s well-established SuperTan technology, which supports capacitance ranges from 2,000μF to 30,000μF and voltage ratings from 25VDC up to 125VDC. These performance levels place the EP1 at the forefront of the market. For instance, the A-profile version achieves an impressive 13,000μF at 50V, surpassing the nearest competitor by 18%. The capacitors come with standard ±20% tolerance, with an optional ±10% tolerance available for more precise applications. The C form factor is set to launch later in 2017, while the B form factor will follow in 2018.
Engineers working on high-reliability systems such as laser-guided weapons, radar, and aerospace equipment will appreciate the EP1’s full-bore sealed enclosure, which enhances reliability in pulsed power and energy storage applications. The device operates within a wide temperature range, from -55°C to +85°C, with a derating limit of +125°C. At 1kHz and +25°C, it maintains a maximum ESR of just 0.030Ω, ensuring efficient performance even under challenging conditions.
Additionally, the EP1 features tin/lead (Sn/Pb) terminations and is fully RoHS compliant, with 100% pure tin termination options available.
