As the nation actively pushes forward with smart city initiatives, the lighting system plays a crucial role within urban infrastructure. The transformation of smart cities cannot happen without advancements in smart city lighting. With the vast trillion-dollar market at stake, numerous LED lighting manufacturers are vying for positions and entering the smart lighting sector.
Philips Lighting, a global leader in lighting solutions, announced on March 23rd that they had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with China Mobile Research Institute to jointly explore cellular IoT standards for smart connected lighting, helping to build smarter cities. China Mobile Research Institute serves as the core R&D and technical support center for the world's largest mobile network provider. Concurrently, Philips Lighting installed a smart interconnected road lighting application based on cellular IoT technology at China Mobile's 5G Joint Innovation Center in Beijing.
In November 2016, Philips Lighting entered into an agreement with Xiaomi to form a new joint venture company with a 70:30 ownership structure, leaning towards Philips and Xiaomi respectively. This partnership aims to jointly promote the development of smart connected home lighting in China. On May 5th, 2017, Osram collaborated with Beckhoff Automation and Microsoft to introduce an intelligent lighting solution tailored for the Industrial 4.0 era at the Hannover Messe. This program is currently operational at Beckhoff Automation's "Future Factory" in Fell, Germany.
NVC Lighting

Feile Audio
On February 21, 2017, Feile Audio announced that the company and Guiyang Bank Co., Ltd. signed a "Strategic Cooperation Agreement." The two parties will engage in comprehensive and in-depth cooperation in the smart city industry in the future.
According to the agreement, the two sides plan to jointly lead a smart city industry fund (contract type) with a total scale of no more than 50 billion yuan to support the industrial development of Feile Audio in the smart city field.
Xuelai Company Fushun Optoelectronics Co., Ltd.
On February 20, 2017, Fushun Optoelectronics Co., Ltd. and the Nanjing Municipal People's Government of Chenzhou City signed the "Strategic Cooperation Framework Agreement" to promote broad and in-depth cooperation between the two sides and adhere to the principle of common development and good faith cooperation.

Lidaxin Intelligent Photoelectric Lighting Industrial Park
On April 7th, the signing ceremony for the Lidaxin Intelligent Photoelectric Lighting Industrial Park and Internet of Things Research Town was held at the headquarters of Xiamen Lidaxin Group. The project is located in the Changtai Economic Development Zone.
The total investment for this contracted project is approximately 3 billion yuan, with about 2,000 mu of additional land. Upon completion, the newly added construction area will exceed 1 million square meters. The project plans to invest in constructing an intelligent lighting industry park integrating IoT intelligent lighting products, large lamps, home lamps, outdoor lighting, industrial lighting, and commercial lighting.
GE
On October 7, 2015, GE announced that it would spin off its LED lighting business, solar energy, and energy storage technology to a newly established company called Current. Since then, GE has launched key intelligent lighting products, collaborated with Qualcomm, developed indoor positioning systems, and targeted the retail industry. Even GE's LED street lights are transitioning towards smart street lights.
