O-ring seal performance and application

O-ring seals are extensively utilized across numerous industries and can be fitted onto a variety of mechanical equipment. They serve as effective seals under both stationary and dynamic conditions within specific temperature ranges, pressures, and with exposure to diverse liquid and gaseous media. This makes them indispensable in the industrial sector, whether for simple maintenance seals or more complex applications like those found in aerospace, automotive engineering, and general industrial uses. Primarily designed for static and reciprocating seals, O-rings are also applicable for low-speed rotary seals. These seals are typically housed in grooves with a rectangular cross-section, either on the outer or inner circumference, to ensure proper sealing functionality. Despite challenging environments involving oils, acids, alkalis, wear, and chemical attacks, O-rings continue to perform admirably in sealing and shock absorption. As a result, they remain the most commonly used seals in hydraulic and pneumatic drive systems. The primary O-ring types used in pressure sensors and transmitters manufactured by Nanjing Aiersen are NBR rubber seals and fluorine rubber seals. NBR rubber seals are versatile and cost-effective, suitable for usage in petroleum-based hydraulic oils, glycol-based hydraulic fluids, diester-based lubricants, gasoline, water, silicone grease, and silicone oil. However, they lack good insulating properties, have limited strength and flexibility, and should not be employed in environments exposed to polar solvents such as ketones, ozone, nitriles, butanone, chloroform, or acidic solutions. Their operational temperature range spans from -40°C to 100°C, with short-term tolerance up to 125°C. Fluoroelastomer seals, on the other hand, are advanced organic elastomers synthesized through the copolymerization of fluorine-containing monomers. They excel in acid and alkali resistance, oil resistance, corrosion resistance, high vacuum compatibility, and excellent weather resistance. Despite their robust performance, they suffer from poor processability, high costs, and issues related to cold resistance, elasticity, and air permeability. Fluoroelastomer seals operate optimally between -20°C and 200°C, with some models capable of withstanding temperatures up to 250°C for short periods. When selecting pressure sensors and transmitters, choosing the right seal plays a pivotal role in determining the product's lifespan. Tailoring the best-suited pressure transmitter to meet the operational requirements of the customer's site is central to Aier Sensing Services' mission. Ensuring precision and reliability in every detail is what sets us apart.
