As the nation actively pushes forward the development of smart cities, the lighting system plays a crucial role within urban areas. The transformation of smart cities cannot proceed without advancements in smart city lighting. Faced with the trillion-dollar market opportunity, numerous LED lighting manufacturers are vying for a stake in this burgeoning smart lighting sector.
Philips Lighting
The global lighting giant, Philips Lighting, announced on March 23 that it had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with China Mobile Research Institute. Together, they aim to jointly explore cellular IoT standards for smart connected lighting to aid in the development of smart cities.
China Mobile Research Institute serves as the core R&D and technical support hub for the world’s largest mobile network provider. Concurrently, Philips Lighting implemented a smart interconnected road lighting application based on cellular IoT technology at the China Mobile 5G Joint Innovation Center in Beijing.
In November 2016, Philips Lighting inked an agreement with Xiaomi to form a new joint venture company, comprising 70% Philips and 30% Xiaomi. The collaboration seeks to jointly promote the development of smart connected home lighting in China. The joint venture will focus on developing home smart connected lighting products and integrating them into the Xiaomi smart home platform.

On July 26, 2017, Sanxiong Aurora released a notice stating that the company convened the ninth meeting of the third board of directors on July 25, 2017. The meeting reviewed and approved the proposal regarding the main body and implementation location of the newly raised portion of the fundraising project. It was agreed to increase the implementation entity and add the implementation location for the fundraising project titled "LED Intelligent Lighting Production Base Construction Project."

Lu Yitong is planning to acquire Guangdong Shenghui Electronics Holdings Co., Ltd., a comprehensive lighting company in Guangdong, transitioning from the electrical equipment field to the lighting and smart city industries.
Osram
On May 5, 2017, OSRAM partnered with Beckhoff Automation and Microsoft to launch an intelligent lighting solution for the Industrial 4.0 era at the Hannover Messe. This program is currently being used in Beckhoff Automation's "Future Factory" in Fell, Germany.
NVC Lighting
On December 23, 2016, NVC Lighting (02222.HK) held a press conference in Huizhou alongside the Chinese Academy of Sciences Cloud Computing Center (Zhongke Zhicheng) to promote smart lighting cooperation. This time, Zhongke Zhicheng and Wang Donglei hope to bring the wisdom of lighting to bear, enabling NVC to embark on a new growth trajectory.
On February 10, NVC Group officially reached a strategic cooperation agreement with Shaohaihui and the residential network jointly initiated by Haier Home and other enterprises. They established the “Yingwu & NVC Intelligent R&D Center†and the “Yingwu & NVC Integrated House Design†Center, committing to achieving more breakthroughs in the field of intelligent lighting. NVC Group has now entered the smart home ecosystem and become one of its core members.
Zhaochi Shares
On February 22, 2017, Zhaochi announced its intent to jointly establish Shenzhen Zhaochi Lighting Co., Ltd. with the related party Shenzhen Guangzhao Future Management Consulting Partnership (Limited Partnership) to enter the field of intelligent lighting.
Feile Audio
On February 21, 2017, Feile Audio announced that the company and Guiyang Bank Co., Ltd. signed a "Strategic Cooperation Agreement." Both parties will engage in comprehensive and in-depth cooperation in the smart city industry going forward.
According to the agreement, both parties intend to jointly lead a smart city industry fund (contract type) with a total scale of no more than 50 billion yuan to support Feile Audio's industrial development in the smart city field.

On February 20, 2017, Fushun Optoelectronics Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Xuelai Company, signed the "Strategic Cooperation Framework Agreement" with the Nanjing Municipal People's Government of Chenzhou City to promote broad and in-depth cooperation between the two parties and adhere to the principles of common development and good faith cooperation.
Fushun Optoelectronics participated in the renovation or new construction of smart street lamps in Nanjing County. Under equal conditions, the Nanjing County Government prioritizes the use of Fushun Optoelectronics' Smart Street Light Products. The two sides are deeply involved in smart cities and smart parking systems.

In December 2016, Ouliang Lighting collaborated with Huawei's HiLink system to create a "smart community" at the "Meet the Future – Future Life Home Alliance Launch Ceremony and Jingxi Xiangyun Conference." Among the highlights, Huawei HiLink smart home solutions were showcased in the sample rooms of COFCO Xiangyun.

On April 7, the signing ceremony for the Lidaxin Intelligent Photoelectric Lighting Industrial Park and Internet of Things Research Town was held at the headquarters of Xiamen Lidaxin Group. The project is located in the Changtai Economic Development Zone.
The total investment for the contracted project is approximately 3 billion yuan, with about 2,000 mu of additional land. Upon completion, the project will add over 1 million square meters of construction area. The project plans to invest in constructing an intelligent lighting industrial park integrating IoT intelligent lighting products, large lamps, home lamps, outdoor lighting, industrial lighting, and commercial lighting.
GE
On October 7, 2015, GE announced its plan to spin off its LED lighting business, solar energy, and energy storage technology into a newly established company called Current. Since then, GE has launched key intelligent lighting products, collaborated with Qualcomm, developed indoor positioning systems, and targeted the retail industry. Even GE's LED streetlights are moving towards becoming smart streetlights.
