[Global Science and Technology Report] Samsung Electronics recently announced that its semiconductor facility in Pyeongtaek, South Korea, has officially commenced operations. This state-of-the-art plant primarily focuses on producing 64-layer stacked NAND flash memory. Built at a staggering cost of 15.6 trillion won (approximately $13.5 billion), this facility is now recognized as the largest semiconductor manufacturing site globally.

In addition to this major milestone, Samsung has also revealed plans to further expand the production capabilities of its Pyeongtaek plant. The company intends to invest an additional 14.4 trillion won ($12.5 billion) to boost output. Furthermore, Samsung is set to allocate 6 trillion won ($5.2 billion) towards constructing a new semiconductor processing line in Hwaseong, specifically designed to accommodate advanced EUV (Extreme Ultraviolet Lithography) equipment.
