ST's innovative voltage detector for a more secure operating system

ST's innovative voltage detector for a more secure operating system STMicroelectronics recently introduced a new generation of innovative voltage detectors. New products have added richer features that can further enhance the system security and reliability of various target applications.

The STM1831 voltage detector will be used for electrical equipment such as autonomous systems and security products. When the power supply voltage decreases, the STM1831 can safely return the system to normal mode. Unlike other voltage detectors, the device is equipped with separate sensor pins and supply voltage pins. Even if the detection voltage drops to 0V, the voltage detector can continue to operate reliably.

The STM1831 supports various factory-set voltage thresholds from 1.6V to 5.7V (100mV increase per step). The wide voltage range allows designers to specify exact voltage thresholds based on design requirements.

In addition, with only an external capacitor, engineers can set the time delay between the detection voltage returning to normal and the detector off alarm output, which increases design flexibility and simplifies the design process. The typical current consumption of the STM1831 is as low as 0.8uA, making it ideal for low-power applications such as battery-powered devices.

The main advantages of STM1831:

±2% Voltage Threshold Detection Accuracy 1.6V to 6.0V Operating Voltage Open-Drain Output Supply Voltage Transient Protection Operating Temperature Range: -40°C to +85°C

The STM1831 is in volume production and is available in a 5-lead SOT23-5 package. STMicroelectronics has started to supply its customers with the STM1831 with a voltage threshold of 1.18V. This product will be put into mass production in April 2011.
