New Server Flagship: Intel Xeon E7 Official Spec Sheet

In the second quarter of this year, Intel’s high-end server processors will evolve into the Xeon E7 series and continue to dominate the dual, quad, and eight-way server and workstation markets.

The Xeon E7 series is code-named Westmere-EX, and its manufacturing process is upgraded to 32nm. However, the package interface is still LGA1567, and it is backward compatible with the 45nm Nehalem-EX Xeon 7500 series. Existing motherboards can only support BIOS update. By the fourth quarter, Intel will also introduce Sandy Bridge-EP/EN to the mainstream server market and switch to the new LGA2011 package interface.

The first Xeon E7 series has as many as 18 different models, divided into three sub-series: Xeon E7-8800, Xeon E7-4800, and Xeon E7-2800. They support up to eight, four, and two parallel channels, and the number of cores is 6/. 8/10, all except E7-8837 support Hyper-Threading, the original frequency ranging from 1.73-2.67GHz, all support different levels of Turbo Boost Turbo dynamic acceleration, three-level cache capacity 18/24/30MB, QPI bus frequency 4.8 /5.86/6.4GT/s, corresponding to the memory frequency of 1066/978/800MHz, thermal design power consumption of three kinds of 95/105/130W, and the previous generation.

The Xeon E7 series will add support for LV/LR DIMM memory, have better processor and memory power management technologies, and support AES-NI instruction set, TXT trust enforcement, VT virtualization, RAS memory expansion and Other technologies.

Of course, Xeon processors are basically provided directly to OEMs, but there are also a few will enter the retail market, such as this time there are two: eight-core Xeon E7-4830, ten-core Xeon E7-4870.
