Inductors and electrolytic capacitors are bullish

As the cost of raw materials and labor rises, the prices of some electronic components are expected to rise to some extent. Inductors and electrolytic capacitors are components that are bullish for both prices and prices in 2011.

The manufacturers did not bullish the prices of all components in 2011. For example, OVP components were considered by many manufacturers to maintain a stable price. For the aluminum electrolytic capacitor market, Liu Quanwang, director of aluminum electrolytic capacitors products of EPCOS Greater China Region, TDK-EPC Group said The price of aluminum electrolytic capacitors will be on the rise due to rising costs of raw materials (aluminum, paper, etc.) and energy costs (main components of anode foil production costs). At the same time, labor costs in China are rising rapidly. It will continue to rise in the coming years. Tantalum electrolytic capacitors are similar.

These rising factors also exist in the OVP components. The reason why they are expected to have different prices is probably due to the more transparent market prospect of electrolytic capacitors. Various renewable energy sources such as solar energy, wind energy, and energy-saving technologies (such as inverter air conditioners and electronic ballasts) have increased the demand for electrolytic capacitors since the fourth quarter of 2009. Liu Quanwang stated that this trend may continue in 2011 and high-voltage capacitors will attract intense attention.

The degree of heat resistance, working duration and volume may be the most concerned performance of electrolytic capacitors, and international manufacturers have competed in these areas. Lai Xianneng, Asia Director of KEMET Application Engineering Division, said that KEMET's electrolytic capacitors can achieve 28A current, the highest temperature 150 °C, and the service life of more than 10 years, while the diameter is only 16-20 mm. TDK-EPC emphasizes that they are producing new series of products with longer life, higher ripple current and compact size.

Common Japanese electrolytic capacitors are Nippon Chemi-con, Nichicon, Rubycon, and Matsuth. Representatives such as ITA, Hitachi, and Yadacon represented the ESD, OST, Taicon, TEAPO, Capxon, etc., and Elebasic, Itedcon, Kendeil, KEMET, CDE, and BHC, among others, in Taiwan and China. Companies such as Jianghai and Changzhou Huawei also received market recognition.

Compared with other types of capacitors, electrolytic capacitors have three outstanding characteristics. First, the capacitance per unit volume is very large, tens to hundreds of times larger than other types of capacitors; Second, the rated capacity can be very large, Can easily be tens of thousands of μ or even several f (but not with double layer capacitance); Third, the price is overwhelmingly superior to other types, because the composition of electrolytic capacitors are common industrial materials, such as aluminum and so on.

Currently, because of life expectancy, LED driver power suppliers are introducing LED lighting solutions without electrolytic capacitors, although many suppliers do not recognize this practice, which is a variable factor that may affect the demand for electrolytic capacitors. In addition, the new energy application market may use more film capacitors instead of electrolytic capacitors. Lai Xianneng said: "Wind and photovoltaic power generation will all move closer to adopting a thin-film capacitor solution."

Inductor Price May Increase 5-10%

In terms of inductance products, the price itself is mainly determined by the material and labor costs. The material is affected by the slight upward adjustment of copper wires and ferrites recently, and the labor salary has increased significantly. It is expected that the inductance price will rise by 5-10% in the near future. Weng Yuting, manager of marketing and sales of Qianrui Electronics (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., believes that demand for inductors will continue to grow in 2011, but the growth rate will be slightly slower than in 2010.

The mainstream trend of inductors is still oriented toward lighter, thinner, shorter and smaller products that can withstand higher currents. Weng Yuting said that the rise of emerging markets, such as thin-TV applications, has two major requirements for inductors. First, quality is stable, and the lead time is about 2-3 weeks. Second, product bias has magnetic shielding. Reduce the EMI interference generated by the inductor itself.

It can be said that Japanese manufacturers TDK, Murata, TAIYO, Nichicon, ELNA, Panasonic, Rubycon and American Wire Arts represent the highest level in the inductor industry, and the Chinese mainland inductance brands are represented by manufacturers such as Sunlord, Nanhong, Fenghua and Maijie. , Taiwan Mei Lei, Qi Lixin, Tai Qing, Zhong Kun, Qianru Electronics, etc.

Inductors have recently made some new advances in technology. For example, in the field of magnetic shielding, the original ferrite core assembly has been replaced by ferrite paste distribution to achieve the same effect, and the cost can be reduced by 15-20%. In addition, the product still has the largest rated current (60 amps) at a small size, and the automated coating is distributed on the outer layer of the coil to reduce the manpower while ensuring better quality. This technology is now widely used by Japanese manufacturers. At present, Qianru Electronics has SN30/40/60/80 series inductors and HP0603/1004 series in the above-mentioned technologies. The current production capacity is 2-4 million/month (SN series), and the lead time is 3-4 weeks.

It is worth noting that when purchasing inductors, purchases must be ordered with specific supplier part numbers. In the case of replacement materials or emergency transfer orders, orders based on appearance size, inductance, and current size may be rushed to place orders. The product is not suitable for applications such as degraded circuit functions or soldering faults.
