Chengyu competes for Taiwan-funded notebook manufacturers

"Old complaints have not yet been made, and new hate has been added." Between the Chengdu and Chongqing areas, where competition has been fiercely contested, a battle for Taiwan-funded notebook computer makers has begun.

An official from Chongqing Municipality said at a small-scale meeting on September 6th that at present, the Chongqing Municipality's building of "the largest notebook computer base in Asia" has encountered tremendous pressure. One example is that in recent years, Chongqing Compal Taiwan has carried dozens of supporting plants to several cities in Sichuan for inspections.

Compal "fly away"?

After signing a contract with Foxconn in 2008, Chongqing quickly showed the driving effect of Foxconn on the industry chain. Chongqing followed up with Inventec, the world's largest notebook computer foundry Taiwan Quanta, the world's largest server manufacturer, and notebook PC OEM.

This year, Chongqing officially announced that it will "build Asia's largest notebook computer base." Huang Qifan, mayor of Chongqing Municipality, said that it is necessary to promote Chongqing to build the electronic information industry as the first pillar. By 2012, the output value of Chongqing's electronic information industry will reach about 350 billion yuan, accounting for 20% to 25% of the city's "total plate."

Laptop computer manufacturing has become a breakthrough in the development of electronic information industry in Chongqing.

However, the recent "intelligence" caused Chongqing officials to have a headache. According to the above officials, from the 3rd to the 4th of this month, Chongqing Compal has tried to attract the world's second-largest notebook foundry, Taiwan Compal, carrying dozens of supporting companies to inspect Chengdu, Mianyang, Suining, Neijiang, Meishan and Guanghan in Sichuan. In other places, the Compal Group Matchmaking Industry for Notebook Computers was held in the corresponding cities and counties.

In stark contrast to this, so far, Taiwan Compal has not conducted such a large-scale investigation and other substantive contacts in Chongqing.

Not only in the "Renbo incident", in recent years, around a large number of projects including Intel and Foxconn, the competition between Chengdu and Chongqing has long been intense. Chengyuan and the two sides are close to each other in terms of economic conditions and preferential policies.

Hard to re-escalate In fact, in the “post-crisis” era, the electronic information industry launched a new round of “westward movement”. The electronic information industry represented by Taiwan-funded enterprises has gradually shifted from the eastern coastal areas to the central and western regions.

The Western central cities heard that Hydrangea had thrown hydrangeas and the competition for the right to settle in the cities had begun among the major western cities, especially in the cities of Chengdu and Chongqing. This competition has become even more intense.

In the past, Chengdu was at the forefront of the electronic information industry in the middle and western regions. However, since the old heavy industrial city Chongqing proposed to "rewrite the pattern of the electronic information industry in the central and western regions," the electronic information industry in Chengdu and even in Sichuan will have a sense of crisis and urgency.

On April 13, 2007, Prof. Lin Ling from the Sichuan Economist wrote a letter to Jiang Jifeng, governor of Sichuan Province, suggesting that the development of "Project No. 1" be strengthened.

According to a survey conducted by the reporter, for Chengdu, there is no shortage of links such as software development and chip manufacturing in the IT industry chain, but there is a lack of manufacturing of terminal products. In other words, Chengdu wants to create a layout for the entire industry chain of the IT industry, and it is crucial to strive for the manufacture of terminal products such as notebook computers.

Last year, “Western Expo”, Chengdu and Foxconn signed an agreement to invest in LED-TV, LCD module, LED backlight module and LED packaging and lighting light source production line. At this point, Chengdu has finally taken an important step in the end product manufacturing process.

In response to this “big move” in Chengdu, Chongqing will launch the world’s largest notebook computer battery manufacturer and Taiwan’s Xinpu Technology Co., Ltd. in Chongqing today to build a “big project” with an annual output of 30 million laptop batteries. Allegedly, there are dozens of battery manufacturers supporting manufacturers.
