Samsung ranks first in India, smartphone sales, Lenovo, Xiaomi OPPO, accelerating

According to foreign media reports, according to data provided by international data company IDC, in the second quarter of 2016, Samsung is still the leader in the Indian smartphone market, while Apple's mobile phone sales have fallen sharply.

According to IDC data, in the second quarter of 2016, the Indian smartphone market sold 27.5 million units, up 17.1% from the previous month and up 3.7% year-on-year. Previously, sales in the Indian smartphone market have declined for two consecutive quarters.

Samsung is still the leader in the Indian smartphone market. In the second quarter of 2016, Samsung mobile phone sales accounted for 25.1% of the total sales of the Indian smartphone market, up 10.9% from the previous month and up 15% from the same period last year. Micromax ranked second, with sales in the second quarter accounting for 12.9% of the total sales of the Indian smartphone market in the second quarter, up 19.9% from the previous quarter.

Lenovo Group (including Motorola) ranked third with a market share of 7.7% and a 10.3% quarter-on-quarter growth. Intex has slipped to fourth place, with a market share of 7.1% in the second quarter and a 9.8% drop in sales, down 30.1% year-on-year.

Reliance Jio ranked fifth, with a market share of 6.8% in the second quarter and sales growth of 12.3%. Other vendors' market share in the second quarter was 40.4%.

“The sales of Chinese mobile phone manufacturers such as Lenovo, Xiaomi, OPPO and Jinli increased by 28% compared with the previous quarter,” IDC senior analyst Karthik J said in a statement. “Previously, Lenovo was the only Chinese mobile phone manufacturer to sell more than one million units in the Indian market in a single quarter. In this quarter, the other three Chinese manufacturers also sold more than 1 million units in a single season.”

Surprisingly, Xiaomi failed to enter the top five, although Redmi Note 3 is one of India's best-selling smartphones.

Apple's mobile phone sales have fallen sharply, even though the company launched the iPhone SE. Market research firm Strategy AnalyTIcs said in a report that Apple sold only 800,000 units in India in the second quarter of this year, compared with 1.2 million units sold in the same period last year. This means that Apple's share of the smartphone market in India in the second quarter has dropped from 4.5% in the same period last year to 2.4%.
