Area sensors, also known as “light curtains†or “gratingsâ€, have a principle similar to that of photo-electric sensors of the opposite type, which are detected by detecting the optical axis between the opposing transmitter and receiver. The difference is that the photoelectric sensor detects the presence or absence of an object, while the area sensor can detect an object in a planar area.
If ordinary photoelectric sensors are used to detect the presence or absence of objects in a certain area, the required number of photoelectric sensors must be installed in parallel. Obviously, it is much more convenient to install and adjust the area sensor than to install the optical axis of many photoelectric sensors in the same plane.
Light curtains are divided into three categories: ordinary light curtains, safety light curtains, and measuring light curtains. The Delta's regional sensor is an ordinary light curtain that can be applied to a variety of protection detection scenarios:
1) The detection of the path of the workpiece with uncertain path, the photoelectric sensor can only detect the presence or absence of the object at a certain position. When the position of the path of the falling workpiece is uncertain, it cannot be detected. The light curtain can detect the presence or absence of an object in a region. Prevent missed detection.
2) To prevent the selection of wrong parts, there may be many similar parts around the workers on the assembly line. In order to prevent the workers from loading wrong parts, light curtains can be installed outside each kind of parts basket by setting a specific order, etc. Workers reach into the wrong parts basket for immediate alarm to improve product yield and quality.
3) There is a wide positioning area to detect the workpiece, when the line needs to detect the presence of different sizes or hollow objects, the use of photoelectric sensors is easy to miss the detection, the regional sensor can be a good solution to this problem.
4) Anti-intrusion detection can be used to prevent intrusion detection in the working area of ​​small special machine tools, prevent operators from straying into dangerous areas, and can also be used to prevent intrusion detection of conveyor belts and prevent foreign materials from entering the conveyor belt.
5) The robot motion limitation is used to prevent the robot from performing interference with the surrounding protection when performing the task. When the area sensor receives the over-limit logic response, it actively activates the robot's safety stop signal. Applying a reasonable exercise limit that satisfies operational requirements can not only improve the utilization rate effectively, but also increase the safety barrier for operators.
Delta's regional sensors can be widely used in food and beverage, packaging, electronic components and equipment, storage, machine tool industries and other automated production lines.
