A few days ago, many manufacturers told reporters that they are developing high-voltage linear driver ICs, but when asked about the definition of high voltage, engineers can not give an accurate answer.

From the perspective of the voltage of the LED driver IC, the original 3.6V driver chip is definitely low voltage, while the high voltage value is relative. Some people say that more than 36V is considered high voltage, and it is said that more than 60V is considered high voltage, the entire LED industry is waiting for the standard definition. With high-voltage linear drive, the primary problem is how many segments each sine wave cuts to achieve the best performance.

Must be non-isolated?

At present, the driving power supply for indoor LED lighting fixtures mainly includes primary side control (PSR) isolated switching constant current power supply, non-isolated switching constant current power supply and high voltage linear constant current power supply. There are few manufacturers of high-voltage IC chips that domestic manufacturers actually produce. The premise of high-voltage linear drive schemes is that the products must adopt non-isolated drive topology.

From the perspective of driving application methods, cost is one of the main considerations due to the large output of lighting fixtures. The cost of isolated power supply systems is high, and there is still room for cost reduction in the future. Compared with the isolated LED power supply, the non-isolated LED power supply has the advantages of simple structure, high circuit conversion efficiency, small component count, and low circuit cost.

At present, Daxin Electronics has developed a high-voltage linear driver IC chip built into MOS that only needs to be matched with a very small number of passive components, and does not require the use of electrolytic capacitors and inductor components. This method can not only greatly reduce the power supply cost, reduce the power supply volume, but also increase the life of the product. The main advantages are high performance, high cost performance, long life, no electromagnetic interference, miniaturization of the drive board, fewer parts, and simple design. The cost of the entire power supply is 30%-40% lower than the cost of switching power supplies that are commonly used today.

Lu Chengchang, deputy general manager of the marketing department of Canrui Semiconductor Co., Ltd., said that in addition to material costs, the conversion efficiency of high-voltage linear driver IC chips can easily be more than 95%, and 98% is also possible. This is another drive solution. Not reachable.

In order to further save costs, many IC manufacturers have also built MOS tubes on the same silicon driver control chip. Because the two work on the stratosphere, they are very sensitive to the current change of the load and the change of the ambient temperature. The abnormal protection response to the whole IC will be faster, and the first time automatic control can be realized, which is different from the quality of the MOS. It would be better, and the packaging of another IC could be omitted.
