ADI's new power-saving LED charge pump backlight driver

Analog Devices, Inc. (ADI), recently introduced the ADP8870 white LED charge pump backlight driver, which enables battery-powered handheld devices to reduce power consumption by up to 45% without compromising display quality. The ADP8870 combines three key functions: a programmable backlit LED charge pump driver; a phototransistor input for automatic control of LED brightness; and a PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) input for managing the ratio of the output current. Therefore, it can automatically change the current intensity according to the ambient illumination intensity and the white light component of the displayed image, thereby greatly reducing power consumption. The ADP8870 automates this function, eliminating the need for a processor to monitor the phototransistors, further reducing power requirements and simplifying portable backlight designs.

Dan Swan, product line director of Power Management Products at Analog Devices, said: "In common operations such as web browsing and e-mail processing, LED backlights consume about 75% of the power consumption of portable electronics. The ADP8870 uses ambient light detection and content. Adapt to backlight control technology to optimize the illumination of the main/secondary display and QWERTY keyboard to extend battery life."

The ADP8870 can control up to seven LEDs, which can be used in groups for backlight control or individually for keyboard illumination, indicator lighting or fun lighting. The grading of each LED is programmable so that the designer can customize fade, fade, fade, and turn off times. For example, fun lighting: In addition to white LEDs, you can also use RGB (red, green and blue) LEDs to improve the aesthetics of your phone. By precisely controlling the proportions of the three colors and mixing them, RGB LEDs can create a large number of different colors. When there is an incoming call or text message, the identity of the caller can be displayed in different colors according to a user-defined group (such as a friend, family member, or a colleague). Fun lighting effects can be synchronized with ring tones or beats of MP3 music. This feature is also very useful when the user is in a noisy environment.

Key features and benefits of the ADP8870 WLED backlight driver

· PWM input characteristics support content adaptive backlight control

· Photodiode input characteristics support automatic detection of ambient light

Interrupt output characteristics minimize power consumption by limiting processor intervention

· Easily program lighting transition points and hysteresis via an I2C compatible interface

· Advanced gradient and dimming options enhance the media viewing experience

Traditional refrigerators use a lot of traditional energy. From the current situation of global energy supply and environmental protection demand, the development of clean energy refrigerator will be an inevitable trend. In addition, electricity and power shortages in Africa and other remote areas have not yet been incorporated into the power supply network, and it is impossible to use refrigerators to preserve food, providing a potential market for the development of solar refrigerators. Solar Refrigerator mainly includes solar photovoltaic refrigerator and solar semiconductor refrigerator. Solar refrigerator is based on traditional compressed refrigerator, which is composed of solar cell, controller, accumulator and refrigerator. The refrigerator USES not only solar energy but also ordinary household materials. It is the most ideal household appliance in developing countries.
