At present, Tesla has introduced the Model S to the market, offering a driving range between 442 and 502 kilometers depending on the configuration. The Model S supports four different charging methods: home charging stations, destination charging stations, Superchargers, and universal mobile chargers.
Tesla electric vehicles support three main charging options:
1. Standard 110V power supply, which provides approximately 50 km of range per hour.
2. Efficient charging stations, which double the charging speed compared to standard outlets.
3. Supercharging stations, capable of adding up to 480 km of range per hour.
This means that for basic charging, you can use a regular household socket. However, it's important to note that in the U.S., the standard voltage is 110V, but when used in China, the power adapter needs to be adjusted accordingly.
Every Tesla model comes with a standard home charging station that operates at 220V, providing about 40 km of range per hour. In the third quarter of 2015, Tesla also launched a high-power home charging option operating at 380V, delivering up to 100 km of range per hour. The cost varies—220V uses residential electricity rates, while 380V requires industrial electricity.
It's worth mentioning that all Tesla charging stations are designed without any locks or security mechanisms. This means that if a home charging station is installed in an open area, other Tesla vehicles can use it at any time.
When installing a home charging station, it’s usually recommended to have a fixed parking space. However, Tesla doesn't refuse installation for those without one. Instead, they work with property management to find a temporary charging spot.
Currently, Tesla partners with third-party service providers to install charging stations. Once all arrangements are made, Tesla guarantees completion within a week. Their installation services cover a 350 km radius around 21 major cities, reaching over 80% of major cities nationwide. If a user is outside the service area, Tesla will send staff to the nearest location, though the customer may need to cover additional travel costs. Alternatively, users can install the charger themselves, with Tesla providing detailed manuals or remote assistance.
The Tesla Model 3 is considered one of the most significant cars of the century by MotorTrend. While the Model S and Model X are more expensive, the Model 3 starts at $36,200, making it more accessible to the general public.
The Model 3 measures 4,694 x 1,849 x 1,443 mm, with a wheelbase of 2,875 mm and a curb weight of approximately 1,610–1,724 kg. It features rear-wheel drive with a single motor, producing around 175 kW (238 hp) and 430 Nm of torque. The lithium battery pack ranges from 60 to 85 kWh, and it can accelerate from 0 to 96 km/h in 5.1 to 5.6 seconds. There is no Ludicrous mode available in this model.
In terms of range, the Model 3 offers between 354–500 km in city conditions, 362–507 km on highways, and 357–502 km overall, depending on the battery option. An extended-range battery is available for an extra $9,000.
Using a Supercharger, it takes about 50 minutes for a standard battery and 55 minutes for a long-range battery. A home or public 240V charger, on the other hand, requires approximately 7.5 hours for a standard battery and 8.5 hours for a long-range one.
The Model 3 uses the Tesla App for keyless entry and control of various features. Optional upgrades include a panoramic roof, and future models will offer dual-motor all-wheel drive, with the front motor not affecting the front trunk space.
Standard driver-assistance hardware is included, with additional features available for $5,000. Overall, the Model 3 represents a major step forward in making electric vehicles more accessible and practical for everyday drivers.
