Huawei Releases Cloud Computing Mobile Vision

Huawei Releases Cloud Computing Mobile Vision Hong Kong, August 3rd (Reporter Wan Xu/Lee Chyen Yee) -- Global No. 2 Network Equipment Manufacturer -- China Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. [HWT. UL] launched "cloud computing" mobile phones on Wednesday, hoping to replicate its success in the telecom equipment market in the smartphone market.

Analysts believe that Huawei is betting on cloud computing smart phones will help it steal market share of Apple (AAPL. O: Quotes) and Samsung Electronics (005930. KS: Quotes) companies.

Global sales of Huawei's terminal division increased by 64% year-on-year to US$4.2 billion in the first half of this year. Shipment volume increased by nearly 40% to 72 million units. Huawei's terminals mainly sell consumer products such as smart phones, mobile phones, tablet computers, and wireless network cards.

Huawei launched the smartphone "Vision" at a media event in Beijing. The mobile phone is 9.9 mm thick and weighs 121 grams and is powered by Google (GOOG.O) Android 2.3.

Cloud computing means that data and software are stored on a computer server rather than a personal computer, and data and software are available through the Internet. Cloud computing smartphones allow users to download applications without having a large amount of storage space on the device.

Last month, China’s Alibaba Group released its first self-developed mobile operating system based on cloud computing technology and a smartphone equipped with its cloud computing operating system. (Finish)
